Next Coach Program

The Next Coach Program is a partnership between the AFLCA and the AFLPA. The program has established a wonderful reputation over 11 years, involving nearly 150 participants in this time.  54 graduates from the NCP are employed by AFL clubs, including West Coast’s Adam Simpson, Melbourne’s Simon Goodwin and North Melbourne’s Rhyce Shaw along with 26 current players.

Originally the program had been offered only to current AFL coaches and players. During the last three years, 23 players and 14 coaches from the AFL system engaged in learning alongside highly credentialed coaches from state and community leagues, three coaches from NRL clubs, an experienced Netball coach and a gaelic football coach from Ireland.

Next Coach presenter David Wheadon challenges individuals, creating stimulating conversations, allowing them to think about how they see themselves as a coach and how to best use their skills in this role. Learn from a life time coach, with more than 30 years’ experience at the top level under 11 head coaches.
