AFL Senior Coaches 2018

AFL Coaches & AFL Players Next Coach Program

Are you coaching at a community or state league club, or are you a current AFL player who is wanting to develop yourself and learn more about coaching alongside current and aspiring coaches from the AFL ranks? The Next Coach Program could be for you!

The Next Coach Program commenced in 2009 and more than 90 coaches have participated in the course over the nine years.

Over thirty graduates from the Next Coach program are currently employed by AFL clubs, including West Coast’s Adam Simpson and Melbourne’s Simon Goodwin.

Last year 6 coaches and 6 players from the AFL system engaged in learning alongside highly credentialed coaches from state and community leagues around the country, successfully creating a sharing of ideas across various levels of coaching.

Next Coach Co-ordinator David Wheadon challenges individuals, creating stimulating conversations, allowing students to think about how they see themselves as a coach and how to best use their skills in this role. In 2018, aspiring participants will again be able to learn from this life time coach, who has more than 30 years’ experience at the top level under 11 head coaches.
